The Director Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has approved the arrest of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu together with his wife, Susan Wangari Ndung’u, and their daughter, Monica Njeri, over graft allegations.
8 other people including county government officials and businessmen will also be apprehended in connection with the allegations.
According to a report by the Standard Media, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) directed that the governor be charged with abuse of office and corruption in which he is accused of acquiring Sh221 Million public property fraudulently.
The other officials that have also been accused of graft include; Lucas Waihinya, Zacharia Njenga Mbugua, Joyce Ngina Musyoka, Simon Kabocho Kang’ethe, Anselm Gachukia Wanjiku and Samuel Muigai Mugo.
Last month, The EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak pointed out that county officials were being investigated on allegations of corruption embezzlement of public funds.
“On Governor Waititu and members of his family, preliminary investigations show contractors paid monies to senior county officials, their companies or relatives through proxies,” Twalib Mbarak stated as quoted by the Standard.
EACC reported that governor Ferdinand Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u and daughter Monica Njeri had been receiving money through heir bank accounts and accounts of companies associated with them.
