This comes slightly over a year after the government banned the use of disposable plastic bags.

However, the county chief now wants a complete ban on all single-use plastic and plastic bottle products.

Speaking During the Blue Economy Conference on Tuesday, Nyong'o stressed on the need to give room for the introduction of better and environment-friendly materials.

“We can ban the use of plastic bags and bottles and give another industry an opportunity to fill the gap created,” he was quoted by the Capital Digital.

Nyong'o directed the nation's attention towards a new invention using vegetables to produce the material, a technique he noted will as well help in vegetable waste disposal.

“There’s a technology from India that allows you to use vegetable waste to make biodegradable bags. This will not only create jobs but also promote the recycling of vegetable waste,” he added.

Nyong'o's proposal comes barely a week after the Governor and his deputy together with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga met a group of Indian investors keen on investing in the lakeside county.

The team led by Dr Raju.S.Gannavarapu is keen to set up a bio degradable factory from where it seeks to produce environmental friendly biodegradable bags.

"Received a delegation from India who intend to produce bio degradable bags in the country, which will aid our environmental conservation efforts. The team was led by Dr Raju S.Gannavarapu and they are planning to set up their factory in Kisumu," Odinga tweeted.
