Telecommunication giant Safaricom paid Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore a whooping Sh16 million per month in a year until March 2018, reports the Standard.

Annually, the amount translates to Sh196.47 million and Sh500,000 per day within that financial period.

This is 16 per cent increase to Sh168.45 million Collymore earned from March 2017 to March 2017.

Of the amount, Sh94.32 million was annual basic salary, annual bonuses of Sh32.42 million,non-cash benefits worth Sh35.64 million  and a stake in the company worth Sh34 million.

Mr. Sateesh Kamath, the firms Chief Financial Officer, took home Sh96.6 million during that period. He was incharge throughout the time Collymore was away for sick leave.

Collymore is among top earning CEOs in the country and his stint at Safaricom has however been controversial at times.

In 2017 during Kenyan polls, the opposition NASA launched product boycott in which Safaricom was part of the affected company.

The boycott was however lifted in 2018 by Raila Odinga, after his historic handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
