The two identified as Eric Wabwire and Simon Muchemi Mbuthia were busted on Sunday at a showroom along Kiambu Road.

This was as a result of a trap that was formulated by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Kilimani Division.

The operation was conducted after complaints were reported at the Kilimani police station regarding the two.

According to reports from DCI, the duo post message on Facebook advertising different cars for sale.

Among the Facebook pages, they targeted City Importers, City Motors LTD, and Direct Importers.

“Once contacted, they arrange for a meeting with the customers at any showroom and convince them that they are genuine motor vehicle dealers and then receive payment either in cash or bank deposit. They then disappear and switch off the mobile phones they were using,” reads the statement.

Members of the public have been warned against fraudsters using social media to exploit innocent Kenyans.
