Police in Eldoret have arrested six  people accused of engaging in cattle theft .

According to Uasin Gishu County Commander Johnston Ipara, the officers made the arrest after receiving a tip-off from members of the public.

“On Sunday our officers  managed to arrested 3 suspects  at Mau Summit while the other  three suspects were arrested  at Kapseret.

"They were arrested with eight cows in a lorry that were stolen from Kapsoya ," said the Uasin Gishu County Commander.

Ipara spoke to the press at Langas police station on Tuesday where he paraded the suspects who stole cows from Kapsoya.

He said that cases of cattle theft have been rampant but promised to deal with the issue once and for all.

Ipara reiterated that the suspects were in possession of  fake transport permits  and rubber stamps that are required for movement of cattle.

Those who were arrested include Martin Kibet, Paul Karanja, Gerald Wathuitha ,Joseph Mugi, Jonathan Kitilit and Joseph Njoroge.

The Uasin Gishu County Commander gave a stern  warning to those  stealing  cattle that their days are numbered and will soon face the full force of the law.    

He urged residents to work as their watchdog by reporting anybody they suspect involved in the act and promised to take stern actions against them.
