The two and among others tried to convene a parallel rally on Saturday but the police denied them the permit to convene.

ODM Communication Director Philip Etale now says the two should consider holding a rally on Saturday because there are no major activities in the region.

"This Saturday there is no major activity in the Western region, will my brothers @KBonimtetezi @EchesaRashid et'al organize for a major rally to talk about the problems we (Luhya) are facing, socially, economically and even emotionally. Isn't it a good idea?" he said.

Khalwale had condemned authorities for blocking his entourage on Saturday, arguing that they had violated freedom of association.

According to him, the banned meeting was to address challenges Luhya people have been facing from the economic front.

While the team was battling to access Mumias, another group led by ODM leader Raila Odinga held a successful meeting at Bukhungu stadium.

Also, Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali had run out of his house claiming that police were keen to have him arrested.
