Thirdway Alliance Party Leader Ekuru Aukot has rubbished claims that Deputy President William Ruto is the force behind his push to amend the constitution.
The leader and his Punguza Mizigo bill have been basking in suspicion lately, especially from rivals of the bill, who are of the opinion that the DP could be bankrolling the bid.
However, speaking in Bomet county on Monday, he sought to make it clear that the DP plays no role in his tours across the nation as he presents the bill to county assemblies.
According to the former presidential hopeful, all the money being used in his trips can be traced back to Kenyans who have been sending it through a paybill number he gave.
“We have depended on goodwill and financial support from the public through our pay bill number from the start,” he said, only days after a number of Ruto's allies vowed to back the bill.
This comes at a time when he appears to be having it hard convincing the assemblies to back the bill, amid growing pressure on the ward representatives to shoot it down.
So far the bill has been rejected in Nyeri while the Uasin Gishu has passed it, and is facing a stiff opposition from ODM leader Raila Odinga who has urged Kenyans to shun him.
Raila had rubbished the bill seeking to slash representation, rooting for a referendum to expand the government, apparently with the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He has since branded it "Punguza Gunia" (sack reduction).
