A local chief at Ikonge found himself in trouble on Tuesday after angry locals roughed him up for allegedly pouring local brew, busaa.
Fred Obae was beaten and chased away from a homestead by angry villagers.
"The chief messed up pouring all the 100 liters of busaa. We were angered with his decision and roughed him up," said Victor Moenga.
Job Nyamoko said the government should consider legalizing consumption of busaa.
"The chief should go slow otherwise, he was lucky to be rescued by Nyumba Kumi officials, we could have caned him thoroughly," said Nyamoko.
However, the chief said he can't succumb to the cheap threats from locals.
"I can't lose my job because of some few individuals. Illicit brews destruction must go on as long as am in charge," he noted.
