Michael Oyamo, the personal assistant to Migori Governor Okoth Obado, has been arrested, reports the Daily Nation.
The top aide is linked to Monday's kidnapping of journalists Barrack Oduor and Sharon Otieno at Rongo under unclear circumstances.
Police boss Bernadict Kigen said he will be interrogated in connection with the abductions which have heightened political temperatures.
But Mr. Obado, through press secretary Nicholus Anyuor, has refuted claims of possible involvement of the governor.
“Governor Obado is not aware of such a plan and his name should not be dragged into such criminal schemes. Let police do the investigations and take necessary actions,” Mr Anyuor said.
Mr. Oduor sustained severe injuries when he jumped out of the moving vehicle and is recuperating in a Nyanzan hospital.
Shortly after Media Council of Kenya and Kenya Union of Journalists condemned the abductions, police executed the arrest.
Until now, the whereabouts of Ms. Otieno remain unknown and it's is not clear why the governor's aide wanted the Nyanzan Journalist tortured or killed.
In recent weeks, Obado has defied ODM party in Migori senatorial by-election race in which the party has backed Ochillo Ayacko.
"The people of Migori should allowed to make independent decisions," he said even as claims emerged on his personal links with Eddie Okech.
