Mt. Kenya region's norm of voting for one of their own informed Deputy President William Ruto to divert attention in his quest ahead of 2022 polls, reports the Standard.
Legislators from the region have been Ruto Ruto a wide berth with Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe affirming that they are under directives from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Watch this space. Mt. Kenya MPs will not be attending those rallies. Instead, they will now focus on delivering to electorates," he said.
Jubilee party is struggling with internal divisions with MPs allied to Ruto accusing those believed to be inner-circle of the President for allegedly sabotaging the DP's 2022 quest.
A Rift Valley MP said the DP has since shifted his focus elsewhere due to the region's unpredictable nature of voting.
"He understands the region's unpredictability and unreliability and has since shifted his focus elsewhere. They rarely vote an outsider," he said.
Instead, Ruto is now trying to win Raila Odinga's strongholds in Nyanza, Wetern, Coast and Northern Kenya region.
At a church function on Sunday last week, Ruto openly dismissed claims that the region owes him political 'debt' adding that he will walk his own path.
