A section of Kaptuli town residents in Uasin Gishu County now wants the county government to sink boreholes and provide piped water.
According to Caroline Kiprotich, the chair of Kalyet Women Group, women are forced to walk for long distances looking for water terming it strenuous.
“As women from Kaptuli we are suffering due to lack of water, we are forced to walk for 5-7 kilometres looking for this commodity,” Kiprotich said adding that women's backs have rope marks due to carrying water.
Kiprotich spoke to the press at Kaptuli on Sunday where she said they are now forced to buy water which according to here is very expensive and residents cannot afford it.
“We buy 100 litres of water for Sh150 which is a drop in the ocean and cannot cater to our daily needs especially for big families forcing them to dig dipper into their pockets,” she added.
She noted that they are now forced to look for water in deserted quarries where they wash clothes and take their animals to quench their thirst.
Faith Chepkoech, another resident said the water shortage problem has been there for over ten years now and that their main source of water is rain.
She, further said that during the dry season which starts in December, they suffer to the extent of losing their animals and also getting vegetables for a meal is a problem.
