A police constable has been arrested for reportedly demanding Sh200,000 bribe.
The officer, Samuel Mutachi, reportedly received Sh35,000 from an advocate after he impersonated a detective from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a forgery case.
The officer stationed at the Central Police Station, was arrested after it was established that he had obtained the case illegally.
“Police Constable Samuel MUTACHI, @PoliceKE based in Central P/Station was yesterday arrested for demanding for a bribe of Ksh.200K & receiving Ksh.35K from an ADVOCATE, after introducing himself as @DCI_Kenya Detective investigating a case of Forgery & making of a False Document,” DCI tweeted.
The DCI urged members of the public to be keen, and always demand for evidence from persons claiming to be detectives from DCI.
According to the DCI, anyone claiming to be a DCI detective must produce his documents of identification, failure to which no one should cooperate.
“The @DCI_Kenya still urges members of the public to ALWAYS insist on being shown the Certificate of Appointment (C.o.A)whenever ANYONE purports to be a #DCI officer & if still in doubt, to ask for the Telephone number of their immediate boss to call and confirm the IDENTITY,” he added.
