Kenya's celebrated veterinary surgeon Kenneth Wameyo died on Wednesday in a Nairobi hospital, details have emerged.
Dr Wameyo is better known for his defense of animal rights besides outstanding veterinary services across the country. He was a member of Kenya Veterinary Association.
However, details about his death remain scanty. There are no records currently over his admission over illness.
A host of his friends have mourned him on social media platforms, with his former college mates hailing his distinguished services to members of the public.
"My deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Daktari Ken Wameyo for losing the great man who loved taking care of animals, he was a man of the people. At this trying Moment, thoughts and prayers are with the family," wrote Jeremiah Kioni, the Ndaragwa MP.
"My college-mate Dr. Kenneth Wameyo @wameyokw was very active in @uonbi students’ leadership (SONU). He was energetic passionate shaper of his veterinary profession; a proactive community development pacesetter. Fare Thee well comrade," said Kabando wa Kabando.
In July, Wameyo faulted a report aired by NTV on Red Alert, which questioned the quality of meat sold to Kenyan in different supermarkets.
"The Red Alert feature by Dennis Okari which has been trending raises a lot of questions on the validity of the messages put across by the feature which is quite misleading to the public," tweeted Wameyo
