Octogenarian politician Simon Nyachae says the maid implicated in Sh5 million theft from his bedroom was the most 'trusted employee'.
On September 28, his wife Grace Wamuyu forgot to close a safe in their matrimonial bedroom, paving room for Ms Lilian Maina to allegedly disappear with Sh5.1 million.
Mrs Nyachae had travelled to London to pick Nyachae, who had been discharged from hospital, only to find the money and maid missing on October 7.
And one of his grandson, who spoke in confidence, says Ms Maina was one of the most trusted employee in his grandfather's home.
"I spoke to him and he believes that the missing maid was the most trusted employee. She was focused and diligent besides enjoying privileges.
"But Mzee only wants the police to recover little they can and is not interested in pursuing litigations. He's of course embarrassed with the maid," he said, asking not to be named because he's not authorised to speak on behalf of the family.
Mr Nyachae, the former Gusii kingpin, was hospitalised in a London hospital after complaining of chest pains.
His son, Charles Nyachae, said that the old politician had to be airlifted to London for further treatment since they were not ready to 'take chances'.
"He had to be flown to London. It was chest pains and doctors allowed us to have him checked in London."
When news about missing money was brought to the attention of media, a number of social media users 'celebrated' the maid's actions with some accusing Nyachae of plundering public resources while serving in government.
