President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday unveiled Kenya's first female military major general in the country's history.
The head of state could not hide his excitement and pride as he made the historic unveiling at State House in Nairobi.
''Major General, let me begin by saying that it is my pride and joy to launch the first woman major general in the Republic of Kenya. I am looking on you to be an inspiration...'' the president said.
The position of major general in KDF has previously been held by men.
The residents of Garissa have been reacting to the historic development.
This is what they had to say:
"This is truly an inspiration to the young girls across the country who intend to break the glass ceiling,'' Dida Salim said.
''I want to congratulate the president for what he has done. Women are achieving,'' Habiba Juno said.
"As women, we are very proud of what that lady has achieved and thank the president for launching her," Fatuma Sake said.
''We want to see more and more women being given big positions. This is a step in the right direction," Faima Abdikadir said.
