Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa steered off politics during the burial of Benjamin Edward Kingi, the father to Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi, minutes after scolding ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
In her speech, Mrs Jumwa, who was expelled from the ODM party, praised Mr Kingi for his contributions towards safeguarding Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa. Also, she vowed to ensure the deceased's community get Land title deeds.
"Mzee Edward was a legend who contributed in the creation of the famous Uhuru Gardens and Mama Ngina gardens in Mombasa. The late Edward, also made tremendous contributions in development to Jilore community and the country at large.
"Also, I expressed that I will support the late Edward legacy as documented in his own authored eulogy and ensure that the land occupied by the family and other residents get its title deed," she wrote on Facebook.
Earlier, Mr Sifuna, who represented the ODM party, had microphone snatched by Jumwa, moments after he had just started explaining circumstances under which ODM kicked out Mrs Jumwa.
"The party rules are very clear on disciplining members. The rules were not crafted by Sifuna," Sifuna said before interrupting by Aisha Jumwa.
But a furious Jumwa, made her way on the podium and forced Sifuna to surrender the microphone. For minutes, Mr Sifuna stared at her before resuming his seat.
"Our Secretary General we didn't come here to talk about ODM politics. We are purposely here to eulogise with the family of the deceased. Respect the Mijikenda people," Jumwa said.
Relationship between ODM party and Aisha Jumwa has deteriorated in recent months, a move that could force the party to de-whip her from parliamentary committees including powerful Parliamentary Service Commission.
A by-election in Malindi constituency is also a possibility should the Registrar of Political Parties office find Jumwa culpable of breaching ODM party regulations.
