Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has hit out at Interior and Coordination of National Government CS Dr Fred Matiang'i following calls to have Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati arrested.
Responding to a tweet in which Dr Matiang'i expressed concern over police brutality meted out on a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student, Cheruiyot wondered whether the CS was concerned about claims that Arati has a marauding gang.
"I have observed the events at JKUAT today with profound concern. The use of force by police is clearly outlined in the National Police Standing Orders," Matiang'i tweeted.
"But Simba Arati is free to maraud with a gang and reign terror on innocent civilians? Doesn't it concern you too?" the Kericho senator fired back.
Simba Arati has strongly denied claims that he has a gang.
There have been calls by a section of politicians to have the legislator arrested over the violence that was meted out on Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa during the Kibra by-elections.
Arati, during a thanksgiving rally in Kibra, said that he saved the Kimilili legislator from angry youths.
The video of the Deputy President William Ruto-backing MP being roughed up by goons in Kibra was shared widely on social media platforms.
The Interior CS had not at the time of writing this article responded to calls for Simba Arati to be arrested.
