Uasin Gishu County Assembly has received Constitutional Amendment Bill 2019 popularly known as ‘Punguza Mizigo initiative.

While making the official communication to MCA's, speaker David Kiplagat said they have three months to make a decision as to whether they are for or against the bill.

"I want to officially communicate to the House that I have received a letter from IEBC as per popular initiative known as Punguza Mizigo Amendment Bill 2019," said speaker Kiplagat.

 "We will do deliberations on the same for three months thereafter, communicate to the two Speakers;  that is of the Senate and that of the National Assembly," he added.

"I hereby commit the same to the committee of delegation which will table the report with amendments which will submit to both Speakers of the National Assembly and that of the Senate," the Speaker said. 

Punguza Mizigo bill will make it to a referendum if 24 out of the 47 county assemblies support it.

This bill which was tailored by the Thirdway Alliance Party leader Dr Ekuru Akuot is bent on reducing the wage bill by cutting down on the number of MPs and nominated MCAs among other things.
