Garissa Township Aden Duale has said that Jubilee party will not be dragged into the ongoing debate on whether to have the number of elective seats reduced in efforts to reduce the wage bill.
According to Duale, the party will only engage in the debate on instructions of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We cannot make comments on the debate until we get instructions from the president who is the Jubilee Party leader," Duale said.
He said that Jubilee MPs making comments on whether to have some elective seats reduced are doing so on their own personal capacity as lawmakers.
Some politicians are proposing scrapping of certain political seats to save taxpayers the pain of heavy taxes.
Some of the seats that some politicians want to be scrapped are MCAs and Women Representative.
Last week, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo proposed scrapping of MCA and women rep seats.
He also proposed that the number of MPs is reduced to 47 same as governor and Senate seats.
He said that the country will continue to rely on external loans unless the wage bill is lowered.
This comes as calls for constitutional referendum intensifies.
A section of Jubilee politicians has however ruled out the possibility of constitutional review before the 2022 general election.
