A class six pupil from a village in Nakuru killed himself on Friday, May 10, days after telling friends that ‘school life was hard’.
George Waweru, 13, who was fond of truancy, had told friends that education was difficult.
On Friday, he looked for a rope and hanged himself in his parents' bedroom.
The incident left residents at Jumatatu village, Subukia, in shock.
“The deceased father, Mr Njeru Ngirishon was from work when he found the body of his son hanging on a rope,’’ said area chief Joseph Karanja.
Karanja said the boy had not reported to Oldonyo Mara Primary School, where he was a pupil since the term started.
Ngirishon, the boy’s father, admitted that his son had been absent from school.
“He was not a bad child but went to school on and off. It is a sad day for us,” the father said.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital mortuary.
A section of Jumatatu village residents has urged children to speak out their issues, following the increased cases of suicides reported in the country.
“God should help us. These cases are so many all over the country,” Mary Waithera said.
