Tshisekedi took over from Joseph Kabila early this year after 18 years in charge. Coincidentally, only Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta attended his inauguration in which most African heads of government boycotted.

In March, Mr Odinga met Tshisekedi in a Nairobi hotel where the two held talks about expansion of infrastructure within DR Congo and across Africa.

"Met with President Felix Tshisekedi for a discussion that centered on Infrastructure in Africa and the key role of the DRC which is located at the heart of the Trans Africa rail and highway networks. We also touched on the importance of sufficient energy generation on the continent and how this leads to faster overall development for all our people," Raila said after the meeting.

Kenya was placed under sharp focus from international community following her endorsement of Tshisekedi. Most nations backed Martin Fayulu, who lost narrowly.

And on Saturday, Raila again met Tshisekedi in his capacity as AU Infrastructural Development boss. They discussed about construction of Kinshasa-Brazaville bridge and completion of Inga Dam.

"Held talks in Kinshasa with President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo on the construction of the Kinshasa- Brazzaville bridge that is part of the Tripoli- Cape Town Trans Africa Highway. We also discussed the Inga Dam whose completion is critical for Africa," he said.

Raila's trip comes amid gold scandals where scammers are said to be importing fake gold from DR Congo to Nairobi for illegal business. It could not be established if the two leaders discussed about fake gold.
