The Kisumu County government has assured students in the region that the county’s scholarship programme is in course.
The assurance was given on Monday, through the Department of Education, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Human Resource Development.
“The department takes note of the urgency of the matter and seeks to shed light on the position of students under the program. In the meantime, it has issued individual commitment letters to the Schools to facilitate ongoing admissions and the retention of continuing students,” reads part of a letter authored by Dr John Obiero, County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of the education department.
According to the letter posted on the Kisumu County’s official Twitter handle, the County enlisted 1,120 beneficiaries for full education Scholarship targeting High School students from all the Seven Sub-Counties in the Lakeside County.
Last year, 770 students received the Scholarship which means the number has gone up by 350 students this year.
Last week, Kisumu Central MP Fred Odhiambo Ouda provided 40 Secondary School students with full Sponsorship under his foundation.
The students joined various Schools among them Kisumu Girls, Maranda High School and Maseno School.
The Professor Anyang' Nyong'o led government has allocated funds to various projects among them road construction and expansion which was recently allocated Kshs. 600 million.
