Despite perennial complaints about examination cheating, a number of Gusii schools beat all odds to top in the country in the Monday's KCPE results.
So impeccable were the results that education minister Amina Mohammed congratulated the two counties for the results.
"I want to specifically thank Kisii and Nyamira for tremendous improvement. Students from those regions deserve applause," she said.
Imperial Academy managed to attain a mean of 402 marks while her sister school set Green Hill, also located in Kisii town managed a mean of 387 marks.
Director Charles Mochama, a former gubernatorial candidate in Nyamira, hailed the two institutions, adding that leaners and teachers were focused throughout.
"I wish to thank teachers and students. They have always done well nationally but this year was the best since the establishment of the two institutions," he said.
Eronge Adventist academy also managed to produce incredible results with the tip student scoring 430 marks.
For Imperial, the top student scored 435 marks with almost all other candidates scoring slightly over 400 marks.
Governor John Nyagarama said: "Congratulations to all candidates for making us proud as a county. We shall help you to pursue your education."
