Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has welcomed the resignation of Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe.
In a tweet, the governor noted that while freedom of speech is a right, it should not be misused.
"Reckless utterances can often lead to unnecessary divisions and chaos. While freedom of expression is a protected right, incivility has no place in present-day Kenya or within the Ruling Jubilee Party. We welcome the timely resignation of #MuratheResigns, as a matter of course!" Waiguru tweeted.
Her tweet came just a few hours after Murathe resigned from the top position in the ruling party.
Addressing the press in Nairobi, Murathe said his position in the party is 'no longer tenable'.
"I now find that it is no longer tenable to stay on as the party vice-chairman, given that I will have to sit in the same National Executive Council with a man I am taking to court to block from running for presidency" Murathe said.
Murathe caused a storm in the country when he first announced that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto do not have an agreement over 2022.
Murathe said if the two agreed on anything come 2022,‘then hiyo ni yao’.
