Former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe has weighed in on claims that the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), could lose some of its assets due to debt.
The state corporation owes at least Sh211 million to suppliers and service providers, and risks to lose part of its property, as the Auditor-General warned in a special audit in September 2018, when the claims were verified.
“The corporation [risks auctioning of its assets] in the event that the claims are not settled, as most claimants have contracts, LPOs, LSOs and award letters,” the audit report says.
Following the reports, Akombe claimed the debt has not been settled after funds were plundered.
"They plunder everything they are able to lay their hands on. One would have thought they would spare the national icon with the family name. But again..." she tweeted on Sunday.
According to reports on Nation, some of the debts accrued date back to 2015, when KICC hosted the World Trade Organisation (WTO) inter-ministerial conference.
KICC's Finance General Manager Gerald Kirimi told journalists to find details about the debt from his boss.
“I am not authorised to issue any communication on this matter. The only person who can give you the information you need is the CEO,” Kirimi said.
