Mariga has since been cleared to vie on the Jubilee party ticket in the forthcoming Kibra parliamentary race, amid questions on his qualifications.

In a tweet Wednesday, Atandi, a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, expressed doubts in Mariga's winning chances, saying that he has too many disqualifications.

According to the controversial MP, Mariga's status as a non resident of Kibra, lack of any philanthropic project in the region, and no political history makes his bid questionable.

He claimed that the latter is also semi illiterate, making it laughable to expect him to fit in the boots of former MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer in July.

"Mariga does not live in kibra, has never participated in any electoral process in Kenya, has no active philanthropic program in Kibra, is semi illiterate, how is he expected to fit into the gigantic shoes of Ken Okoth," said the lawmaker.

This comes amid a widening rift within the Jubilee Party, with some members rallying behind the ODM party which is, however, yet to settle on its candidate.
