Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Kiaraho has been brought under questioning over missing school desks, a year after locals raised money towards the project.
In the November 26, 2018 harambee, a total of Sh 1 million was raised by the residents and another Sh1 million by Deputy President William Ruto, which the MP said would he topped up on the Sh10 million from the constituency kitty.
However, the locals are saying that the desks are yet to be delivered, with teachers now the MP misappropriating the funds, claims he has denied, saying that the project is still on course.
He on Saturday added that his office is awaiting the greenlight from the National CDF office to utilize the money.
The lawmaker added that headteachers in Nyandarua and Mirangine Sub Counties are also yet to agree on the costs of the desks and the design, another reason for the delay.
“Each school was allocated the number of desks to get and it is during the meeting of head teachers that each school will be given a cheque to buy the desks provided it sticks to the sample and cost,” said the legislator.
However, area CDF Chairman said that some of the CDF money was used for last financial year's bursaries, but the desks have been provided for in the current year's budget.
“But we have committed Sh10 million for the desks in the current financial year and all we are waiting for is AIE (authority to incur expenditure) so that we can buy the desks,” he said.
