Transport and Infrastructure Chief Administrative Secretary Chris Obure has raised a red flag over the slow pace at which census exercise is being conducted.
Obure, while speaking in Kisii town on Monday noted that the detailed data collected may slow the exercise thus other Kenyans may miss being counted.
"Collecting data is taking up to 1 hour per household instead of the proposed 30 minutes. This long period is derailing the process and many people may not be counted given that the exercise is expected to end on Saturday, 31st August 2019," said Obure.
The former Kisii county senator appealed to enumerators to work around the clock to ensure every resident in Kisii county is counted.
According to Obure, the census period may not be extended and therefore there is a need for enumerators to move with speed and complete the counting process before the set deadline elapses.
"Enumerators should move faster for the purpose of counting every resident. I call upon clan elders and chiefs to coordinate the exercise so as to ensure no one is left out in the counting. The time being taken by enumerators per household should be narrowed down as this will help ensure more people are counted," he added.
