Police officers have been deployed to Nabongo Sports ground where the Western Economic Forum was meant to take place.
This is after a section of politicians insisted that they will go on with the meeting despite a statement issued by the police that banned the meeting and revoked an initial permit given to the organisers of the meeting.
By 10:00 am on Saturday the politicians who had organised the meeting had not yet arrived at the venue.
Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale were some of the leaders who had vowed to defy the order from the police.
On Saturday morning, there were unconfirmed reports that a bus heading to Mumias had been set on fire.
It was alleged that the bus which was set on fire was transporting people to Kakamega for a BBI rally that has been organized to popularise and draw support for the BBI report.
Police officers have however dismissed the reports.
“No bus has been torched as reported in social media, we are on top of everything and will not allow any breach of peace,” a police report read as quoted by The Standard.
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader and Bungoma Senator who were earlier on expected to be part of the meeting at Nabongo Sports Ground are however reported to be planning to attend the BBI meeting that will be held at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega.
