Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Mwaura said it is shameful for the government to seek help from abroad when we have the Kenya Navy and other experts on the ground with the capability to retrieve the bodies.

He said that the idea of seeking aid from foreigners is like washing our dirty linen in public.  He added that time has come for leaders to rethink about the priorities of this nation for the sake of its growth.

“The fact that nine days later, we are still unable to retrieve the bodies of Mariam and Amanda is unacceptable. Having politicians that are celebrities is the worst thing as a country,” he said.

“We cannot allow foreigners to come in and expose our shame, we should not glorify foreigners,” he added.

Mathare MP Anthony Alouch, who spoke on the same show, said that the Kenya Navy has failed the state. He questioned why the Navy often showcases sophisticated weapons yet it cannot recover two bodies and a vehicle from the ocean floor.

“The Likoni ferry accident has exposed the soft underbelly of the Kenya Navy. During public holidays, the navy is constantly showing equipment’s they have and what they can do and is saddening for them to be exposed in this way,” he said.

The search for the missing bodies continues amid mixed reactions from different quarters.
