The Current National Assembly is being graced by some former Journalists turned politicians, who are now elected or nominated Members of Parliament (MPs).
Nyali MP Mohamed Ali and his Lugari counterpart Ayub Savula are some of the renowned former journalists now in Parliament, having been elected or re-elected last year.
Apart from the two, and others not mentioned here, nominated MP Denitah Ghati is a former journalist now in parliament.
The former Migori County Women Representative was nominated by the ODM party to represent People Living with Disabilities, after last year’s general elections.
Ghatti lost the ability to walk after her car was involved in an accident in Narok County on her way from Migori to Nairobi on March 11, 2014.
She went to the prestigious Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) in Nairobi between 1997 and 2000, where she acquired a Diploma in Mass Communication & Public Relations.
The nominated MP later studied at the Nairobi University and Columbia University in USA where she acquired Bachelor of Arts Sociology, and Master of Science, Social work respectively.
After leaving KIMC in 2000, Ghatti joined the East African Standard, now the Standard as a journalist where she worked until 2002.
She would later join the American Jewish World Service in New York.
