Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has raised fears that the divisions being witnessed among Mt Kenya leaders might have terrible consequences for the region.

This comes at a time when a number of area leaders have associated themselves with groupings within the ruling Jubilee Party and others pushing for formation of new ones.

But Kiunjuri now warns that the division might divide the voters, which will in exchange weaken it, rendering it a victim of more united regions and their candidates in the 2022 general polls.

“I agree with the elected leaders that we should also plan and focus as a region because if we do not plan for ourselves, we will be outshone by others. We have to stay united as leaders because we will not benefit when we are divided," he was quoted by the Standard.

He was speaking when he accompanied other leaders for a fund drive at the St John AIPCA Church Buuri, Meru county, on Monday.

He called upon experienced leaders to take over the issue in a bid to return normalcy in the region, also urging religious leaders to as well lend a hand to save the region.

Other leaders present included area Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, Buuri MP Mugambi Rindiki, Moses Kirima (Imenti Central) and Patrick Munene of Chuka Igamba Ng'ombe.

The region has been having it hard remaining a united unit as has been the case before, with groups of leaders heading in their separate ways.
