Popular among politicians, the first Luo politician to carry the symbol was the region's veteran kingpin and the nation's first Vice President, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, before he passed it to late Homabay Senator Otieno Kajwang'.

But with many more leaders being seen carrying the whisk lately, some of whom are not well qualified, here are some of the leaders who are qualified to don the whisk as a sign of respect and leadership experience;

1. Raila Odinga

The former Prime Minister remains the ultimate political decision maker for the Luo nation and is among the most followed and influential leaders in the entire republic.

The Orange party leader is also among the oldest leaders in the region and paid dearly for the nation's current well being, including the push for multiparty democracy that saw him spend some years in jail in the 90s.

Odinga, therefore, qualifies for the whisk.

2. James Orengo

Just like Odinga, the senior counsel has also been in leadership for long enough to get his name into the list of the Luo Nyanza and Kenya's most celebrated and influential leaders.

The Siaya Senator enjoys massive adoration in his Luo Nyanza backyard, as a result of his closeness to the former Premier and is also old enough to assume the whisk.

3. Anyang' Nyong'o

The Kisumu Governor started from the lowest point, serving as the Member of Parliament for Seme constituency in Kisumu, before ascending to the senatorial seat and finally his current post.

Approaching his 70s, he has also been around for long enough to qualify as a top leader and formerly served as the Cabinet Minister in the powerful Health docket.
