Usenge Boys High School and St. Augustine Nyamonye Girls’ Secondary School in Bondo, Siaya County are the latest schools to be closed over student unrest.
The closure was confirmed by Bondo sub-county Director of Education Elisha Omala.
Omala said that Usenge High School was closed following a fire that gutted down two dormitories in the institution on Saturday night.
He added that the school’s Board of Management resolved to have the school closed to give room for investigations. The fire affected over 300 students.
Mr. Omala further said St. Augustine Nyamonye Girls’ Secondary School was also closed after the administration reported signs of tension amongst the students since Friday.
He noted that after consultation with the Board of Management and the administration, they decided to send the students home until next week.
Over the past one week, six schools have so far been closed due to student unrest.
