Political activist Ndung'u Wainaina has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta following the appointment of former Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui as the chairperson of the National Employment Authority.
The Executive Director of the International Centre for Policy and Conflict said Wambui's appointment was defective, but noted Uhuru should take all the blame for giving the former legislator the plum state job.
In a tweet on Thursday, Wainaina said Kenyans must find a way to deal with Uhuru, who he said was the 'real problem' in the country.
"While appointment of Mary Wambui to chair Employment Authority is problematic, it is only manifestation of the real problem. And real problem is Uhuru Kenyatta! Kenyans should start to tackle head on the problem but not its manifestation," he said.
The activist's remark came a few hours after Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja threatened to file a petition seeking to cancel Wambui's appointment, on grounds it was against Section 10(2) of the National Employment Authority Act.
Wainaina said instead of the Senator seeking revocation of the ex-MP's appointment, he should seek court's interpretation on the powers the president and his ministers have in making State appointments.
"Senator Sakaja should not go to court to challenge the appointment of Mary Wambui to laughable Employment Authority. He should challenge whether the president and cabinet secretaries have constitutional powers to appoint members of public corporations/parastatals," he posted.
