According to Kalonzo, Kenyans should prepare to vote in a referendum early next year.

Speaking during a church service at AIC Kanisa in Mlolongo on Sunday, Kalonzo said referendum will heal some of the issues the country is facing.

The Wiper Party leader rubbished claims that referendum is being pushed to create political positions for political losers.

"We need a referendum to tackle some of the pertinent issues facing our country," he said.

Kalonzo stated that amending the law to benefit Kenyans is not bad, adding that laws are created to be amended.

The push for referendum is gaining momentum across the political divide.

Last week, Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli said the referendum will be held this year or early next year.

The Cotu boss said the push to amend the 2010 law is unstoppable, adding that those doubting him on whether referendum will be held will be shocked.

The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that was formed after the famous March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga is currently collecting views on proposal for referendum.

The committee co-chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and Busia Senator Amos Wako is expected to hand its report to the president in October.
