The ultimate outcome of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's attempted murder case will be a litmus test on the rule of law and judicial independence, popular Kameme FM presenter has said.
Gatonye Wa Mbugua who hosts Kameme FM breakfast show (Arahuka) alongside comedian Mzee Kiengei while speaking on Monday morning ahead of Owino's arraignment in court, added that justice must be seen to be done for all the parties involved in the case.
"I am of the opinion that as Paul Ongili (Babu Owino) is presented to court today, our courts will have a good opportunity to remind everyone that will be following the case that nobody is above the law."
"The way the court will handle the case to the very end, will be a litmus test to judicial independence and the rule of law in Kenya," Gatonye said during the show.
The presenter who also doubles as the station's head, would also castigate the controversial MP for the infamous 'ballot or bullet' Twitter post that he made after the shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning last week.
"These are the kind of careless and reckless talks that water down the famous March 2018 handshake and other things that came with it. However, I hail the ODM party for making it clear that Ongili's current predicament is not a party affair and that politics should not shape up the case awaiting him," he added.
Gatonye's co-host, Mzee Kiengei, would on his part liken Owino's 'scandalous' life as MP, to a tortoise that is assisted to the top of the tree then it begins to 'urinate' on the helper's head.
This was in reference to voters whom he said the MP was now 'shooting haphazardly'.
In the same breath, Ghetto Radio presenter DJ Charra during the 'Jahmrock Dobba' reggae show on Monday evening, appealed to the deejaying fraternity in Kenya to rally behind DJ Felix Orinda (Evolve), the victim of Owino's shooting at B Club in Kilimani, Nairobi.
"Regardless of where you deejay at, all of us DJs in Kenya must speak in one voice and condemn this barbarity. If somebody must show their prowess on matter guns, then they shouldn't do them at entertainment joints while threatening DJs and other revellers' lives," he said.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi directed on Monday that the MP be remanded for seven days to await a pre-bail report from the probation department as well as the victim's evidence before deciding on whether to release Owino on bond.
