Deputy President William Ruto's allies have been questioning the initiative founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Premier Raila Odinga, questioning its intentions.

But speaking on Tuesday, the Suba South lawmaker noted that the same is normal, terming the oppositions coming from persons feeling threatened by the initiative.

He said that under the fear that the BBI taskforce might propose constitutional changes, the group fears that the BBI might produce an unfriendly political environment, hence the fears.

“There are people in this country who are not sure what the BBI is likely to produce and they think whatever BBI is going to produce may work against their selfish political agenda," he said.

He made the remarks on Citizen TV's NewsNight on Tuesday.

As a supporter of the BBI and its yet to be released report, Mbadi noted that himself and his side will keep endorsing the initiative even of some people feel threatened by it.

According to Mbadi, they will not be pushed into abandoning the initiative, which he praised, just so that some people can realize their ambitions, in an apparent reference to Ruto.

"Its not our duty really to help your individual political ambitions," he added.

Ruto, whonis eyeing the presidency in 2022 has been seen as the barrier, with pundits fearing that he will be disadvantaged should there be amendments to trim presidential powers.
