The governor is yet to pick a deputy following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe and has been postponing the nomination.

Sonko who is currently battling graft claims recently said that he still has an option should he be blocked from office, this being using his county directors and ministers to run the city.

However, in an interview on Radio Citizen on Wednesday morning, Mweke who served in the previous regime warned the group of possible punitive measures should they listen to Sonko.

"Any other person entering through the back door, claiming they can take over as governor; the way we heard him saying there are ministers and directors who can do my job, if they do it they will be jailed (Sasa mtu mwingine kuingilia hapo nyuma, kusema eti yeye ndiye anafanya kazi ya gavana, vile tuliskia gavana akisema ati yuko na mawaziri na madirector watafanya kazi yangu, wakifanya watafungwa)," he said.

Mweke made the remarks on Mjadala wa Citizen show, where he noted that only the Deputy Governor or the County Assembly Speaker can take over from the governor.

In case of interference from the others, he warned, they can easily be charged and even jailed with abuse of office.

"If you contravene the law you will be jailed. It's called abuse of office (Ukienda kando ya sheria unafungwa, inaitwa abuse of office)," he added.
