Two Al-Shabaab militants were on Friday night killed at Yuumbis village in Garissa where they had raided a police station, reports have emerged.

Sources say the militants attacked a local police station where they made away with several guns. A Safaricom mast was also destroyed in the process.

A reinforcement from Kenya Defense Forces overpowered the militants with two killed instantly when they tried to run away amid heavy gunfire.

"Reports say two Al-Shabaab militants were killed following a raid in Yuumbis village in Kenya’s Garissa County, midnight last night. Militants also used explosives to destroy a safaricom communications mast, and made away with several guns from a police station," Voice of America journalist Harun Maruf tweeted.

Exactly a week ago, Al-Shabaab militants raided Wajir County and planted explosives before kidnapping two National Police Reservists.

The explosives killed seven police officers who were in routine patrol in the region. The officers have since been buried while two who were missing, were rescued alive.

“The officers were on a routine patrol when the unfortunate incident happened, two officers survived the attack and are being treated at Wajir County Referral Hospital while two others are still missing,” Loyford Kibaara had confirmed.

A fortnight ago, NIS warned that over 40 Al-Shabaab militants had crossed from Somalia to Kenya and that they were planning retaliatory attacks after police killed one of them and confiscated guns in Mandera.
