A hippopotamus attacked a man and killed him in Lake Naivasha.
The Tuesday evening incident occurred after the man went on a fishing expedition in Lake Naivasha.
Boat Owners Association Chairman David Kilo said the man was attacked by the hippo as he cast his net in the lake.
The victim's chest was bitten off by the hippo in the 5.30 pm incident leaving him with serious injuries as his colleagues tried to help him.
“We administered first aid on the victim and later rushed him to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival,” he said as quoted by nation.co.ke.
Kilo appealed to locals to avoid fishing in areas invaded by hippos and to be more cautious in thor activities around the lake.
In the recent past, both locals and tourists have been attacked by hippos despite warnings by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) urging people living near the lake and other water bodies that are habitats of dangerous wild animals to be cautious when using the water to prevent human-wildlife conflict.
