Rarely do we see head of states flaunting weapons to the public but President Uhuru Kenyatta went against the grain.
About a year ago, a photo of him in the wild with a pistol secured in a holster around his waist surfaced on the Internet, roiling social media platforms with chatter hours on end.
Besides the president who is decked out in jeans and a checked shirt was a woman in a cap thought to be a warden.
The residents of Garissa did allow the chance to weigh in on the trend escape them.
Here is what they had to say:
''It is in order for the president to learn how to use a weapon. He may need that knowledge in the future,'' Khadar Juno said.
''He was having a good time after a pretty hectic schedule. He needed that,'' Amin Mumina said.
''He was in the wild and an animal could just emerge from nowhere,'' Burale Ahmed said.
''The president is just like any human being out there. He need s time out so as to unwind,'' Jabali Kunow said.
''I wonder why such a normal thing is causing such controversy. People should learn to mind their own business,'' Sukre Abad.
