Being the most likely aspirant to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, William Ruto has been facing harsh criticism from rivals, especially those allied to ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Besides this, DP Ruto could also be staring at an imminent threat to his succession politics; the proposed referendum.

DP Ruto is on record claiming that the country does not need any constitutional amendments, a stand that is contrary to that of his boss Uhuru Kenyatta.

Just like the head of state, Raila Odinga who is also Ruto's biggest political rival supports the referendum calls.

Amid the looming changes, Uhuru recently called on politicians engaging in early politics to desist from the same, claiming the move was working against the country's stability and economy.

Even as the calls for referendum steadily appears irresistible, it is now emerging that the move could be the only remaining hurdle for DP Ruto in his race to State House.

It is one thing that can make him either an overall winner or loser.

If his bid to oppose the key constitutional changes sees the light of the day, it could mean that he will undoubtedly be Jubilee's most preferred aspirant to ascend to the throne.

On the other hand, amendments on the constitution could see new provisions come in, a thing that will obviously deal a big blow to his 2022 elective politics.

But above all, time will dictate the country's political path either with or without the proposed constitutional changes.
