Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has coined a new name for Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Citizen TV's News Night show, Khalwale equated Kuria to a court jester during Nabongo Mumia's reign.
Khalwale made the remarks after the MP defended the implementation of the 16 per cent VAT on petroleum products, arguing that those opposing the levy were unpatriotic.
"Debts are good for economic development. However, these debts must be paid through taxes. Anyone telling Kenyans not to pay the 16 per cent VAT on fuel is being unpatriotic by denying the government its right to collect the tax," Kuria said.
“Paying taxes is sacred. We are shooting ourselves in the foot if we deny government the right to levy taxes,” he added.
Khalwale, however, did not agree with Kuria's remarks. He hit out at the vocal MP, arguing that President Uhuru Kenyatta was using him as a pawn to defend the implementation of the 16 per cent VAT on fuel.
“Kenyans listening to you now and knowing that you come from Gatundu might very well equate you to a special person in my community who sits next to the Nabongo, this person is called ‘mwinyambi’," said Khalwale.
“The business of ‘mwinyambi’ is that when the King spoils the air you take responsibility for it. If President Uhuru will go ahead and allow this taxation to go on, then he is going to need you as a ‘mwinyambi’ so that he says am not the one who did it," he added.
The term caused a stir online, with a section of Kenyans using it to mock the MP.
Here are some of their reactions.
