He received a thorough beating- in the form of de-campaigns- from Rift Valley politicians led by arch-rival and current deputy president William Ruto.

The former prime minister was so buttered that he went into the election well knowing that he would not gunner even a handful of the votes from the region considered as the country's food basket.

However, despite close to 99 per cent of leaders from the region ditching Raila, three leaders stood by his side and vigorously campaigned for him.

1. Dr Sally Kosgei

The former Aldai MP is among leaders from Rift Valley who defied Ruto and the Jubilee coalition wave and defended her seat on an ODM party ticket.

Although she was a darling to many in Rift Valley because of her strong political stands, she lost the seat; just because of her association with Raila.

But despite the loss, she has remained a close relationship with the son of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and is among leaders who visited Raila at his Capitol Hill office after the famous golden handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

2. Henry Kosgey

The former ODM chairman joined the list of leaders from Rift Valley who lost their seats because of their association with Raila.

The former Industrialisation Cabinet Minister stuck with Raila to the last days of the election.

And just like Dr Sally, he was also booted out of Parliament as the URP wave swept across Rift Valley.

He has maintained a low profile since then, but claims indicate he is still a supporter of Raila.

3. Magerer Langat

By the time Kenyans went into the 2013 general polls, he was the ODM party's Executive Director.

He defended his Kipkelyon parliamentary seat on an ODM party ticket but was also sent home because of his association with the man former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo describes as the 'Professor of Kenyan politics'.

Langat, after losing the poll was ejected from the ODM party after being accused of being a Jubilee mole within the political formation.
