On Wednesday, the residents led by their spokesperson Dominic Seme said that Muthwani ward has been neglected by the county government in terms of development.

They said that since 2013, the ward has not tasted the fruits of devolution despite it being the largest in Mavoko sub-county and remitting taxes.

“There is no development project that has been executed in the ward since 2013 by the Machakos government. In 2016 -2017 financial year, the county government allocated Sh10.88 billion, 70 per cent recurrent and 30 per cent development in the 40 wards. No development, where do the allocations go,?” asked Seme.

The residents had just chased Machakos County Assembly staff who had arrived for public participation at Joska area in Mavoko sub-county.

The staff had just begun their presentations on the proposed budget when the locals turned wild rejecting the budget.

They said for the longest time ever, they have been used to pass budgets that are never implemented as the money ends up in people's pockets.

“We help people to allocate money into their own pockets. We come here to be used as rubber stamps. money is allocated to the ward but no development. For today, No. We are sorry we are not going to do this business,” Seme added.

Before the assembly employees left one of the clerks,  Dominic Musyoka, was shouted down after he attempted to silence the agitated residents.

This angered the residents even more.“Let us understand why we are here, maybe you do not know why we are here,” said Musyoka.

The terrified Musyoka ran into his car that was parked few metres away from the meeting venue and sped off.

Two nominated MCAs who were in attendance Hellen Ndeti (Wiper) and E. Nyawira (Muungano) also left in a huff.

Area MCA George King’ori was left with the residents trying to calm them down but he was overwhelmed by the angry residents.
