According to the family members who termed the deaths as extrajudicial killings, the two were not terrorists.

The two suspects; 45-year-old Hamza Mohamed and  26-year-old Mohamed Rashid Mwanyiro were killed on grounds of being involved in terror activities.

Hamza who was killed on Thursday last week by officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) was labelled as a terrorist while Rashid was accused of taking part in the killing of a naval officer.

The families of the two supported by members of the Muslim for Human Rights (MUHURI) have nonetheless dismissed the allegations and instead asked the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the cases.

"This was extrajudicial killing. We want an independent probe because the police account of the two incidents do not add up," read part of a report by Muhuri quoted by Standard Digital.

A statement from the Nyali Sub-county Police Commander Simon Thirikwa indicates that Mohamed threw a grenade at the police just before he was killed.

Muhuri, on the other hand, dismissed the accusations and claimed reports from the witnesses contradicted the statement.

“Witnesses said police removed him from his room, already dead and did not confiscate any weapon or explosives,” Muhuri further revealed.

Mwanyiro, on the other hand, was accused of taking part in the murder of villager elders. His family, however, insisted that the late should have been arrested and charged instead of being shot six times.
