Being in a relationship is a choice. At some point in life, you may find yourself in a long distance relationship (LDR). While a long distance relationship may seem daunting at first, there are some few tips that can make your relationship work.
Here is what you can do to make your long distance relationship work.
1. Keep in contact
You don't have to constantly be on the phone with your significant other. Having daily or weekly phone and face time calls will help make the distance seem closer.
2. Set your ground rules and following them
Always remember that healthy relationships involve clear communication and respect. If you and your partner have decided to be 100 per cent loyal to each other while you are apart, ensure you remain loyal. Respect the boundaries you have decided to set.
3. Remember birthdays and anniversaries
If you are going to be away from each other for birthdays and anniversaries, send your partner a gift or a card. It is okay to put off a birthday or anniversary dinner until you are together again.
4. Don't let people discourage you
There are always going to be people who say things like 'a long distance relationship isn't worth it'. If a long distance relationship is working for you and you are happy with the person you're dating, ignore these people.
5. Remember that you are in a relationship
Always have it in mind that you are in a relationship. So act like a person who is in a relationship despite the fact that your partner might be miles away. Avoid doing things that might hurt your boyfriend/ girlfriend.
