Residents in Masaba South, Kisii County are in grief after an 18-year-old man died after being electrocuted on Wednesday evening.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet said the deceased, identified as Mogaka, was on his way home from a farm where he had cut trees when he met his sudden death.
"The deceased was carrying logs which accidentally touched a hanging electricity wire, leading to the electrocution. He died on spot," said Kibet.
The police commander urged locals to be cautious when passing near electricity wires.
"Police officers from Masab South accompanied by Kenya Power officials went to the scene where they warned the locals not to touch the body to avoid absorbing the shock," he noted.
The body of the deceased was moved to Masaba Level Four Hospital morgue.
Kibet also called on parents to ensure their children do not play near electricity wires, so as to avoid such deaths.
He further challenged Kenya power officials to move with speed and ensure the hanging electricity wires are tightened to curb unnecessary deaths.
