The five were arrested over the weekend in connection with tribal clashes in Nessuit Njoro. They were charged before a Nakuru court.

William Kipkemboi , Joshua Kipchumba , William Langat, assistant chief Joseph Lesingo and Nakuru county Assembly Deputy Speaker Samuel Tonui appeared before senior principal magistrate Elizabeth Gicheha.

The five denied the charges.

The case will be mentioned on Thursday where further directions will be given.

The prosecution had requested for 14 more days in order to allow the investigating officer to complete the probe.

The suspects’ lawyer, Bernard Kipkoech, opposed the application saying it is a violation of their rights.

The magistrate also allowed an application to have Tonui and Kipchumba taken to the hospital at Nakuru Level Five for medication.
